Lake Mıvatn - Volcanoes & Spa
Hop on this tour to the world famous Lake Mıvatn - all that makes Iceland so unique can be experienced within a few hours. Powerful waterfalls, characteristic volcanoes, geothermal activity, a nature spa and outstanding birdlife. Whether in winter or summer - this is an ever-changing and exciting tour.
On the way to Mıvatn our first stop will be the beautifull Goğafoss - the waterfall of the gods - which played an important role in the adoption of Christianity in Iceland. In Mıvatn we will visit the pseudocraters where the American astronauts trained, the dark cities full of unique lava-pillars and the home of our yulelads. We will climb down to a cave filled with warm streaming water right at the continental rift, one foot on the North American plate the other on the Eurasian plate. Afterwards we move on to the high temperature field where we see bubbling mud pools and fumaroles, and smell sulphur all around. Krafla is the one active volcano in the North and its crater is our next destination. The day culminates in a relaxing dip in the Nature Baths of Mıvatn, the 'Blue Lagoon' of the North, with a great view of the lake.
