Description

Let yourself be pulled by huskies on a sledge through the beautiful winter landscapes of North Iceland.
You will experience unforgettable and intense days. Joining us on a tour with the huskies is a very special and touching way to explore the landscape and the still quiet of nature in winter.

Day 1: Akureyri and the first Husky tour
The day starts in the morning with your first dog sledding tour, either high above the fjord in the mountains or along the inner fjord. In the early afternoon we take you on a town tour to discover Akureyri.
After the town tour and warm up in the cafe, you will visit our kennel with Siberian huskies . You will experience how powerful the dogs are, but also how much they enjoy your company. You learn a lot about huskies and their life. Then it is time for a tea or coffee.

Day 2: Husky tour and Mývatn lake
Day 2 starts again with the dog sledding but now you are already "experienced" and know how to handle the sled and dogs. After the sledding we set off to one of the most exciting areas of Iceland: Lake Mývatn, in the middle of an active volcanic zone, where you´ll get to see the pseudocraters where the American astronauts trained, Dimmuborgir the dark cities full of unique lava-pillars and the home of our yulelads. We will be right at the continental rift, one foot on the North American plate the other on the Eurasian plate. Afterwards we move on to the high temperature field where we see bubbling mud pools and fumaroles, and smell sulphur all around.
At the end of this beautiful winter day we can relax in the warm waters of the Nature Baths.

Day 3: Husky tour in surrounding of Eyjafjörður
We start out the day with our last dogsledding tour in this fascinating landscape - whereever snow conditions are best. Goodbye my huskies and malamutes. After the lunch break we go on a snowshoe hike high above the fjord and enjoy the scenery. Afterwards you can spend some leisure time in our brandnew SPA with swinging SPA lounges, Finnish sauna and jacuzzi.

Dates: Nov – Apr

Dog sledding
Every day there is a full programme and it includes a 3 km dogsledding tour per day. The dogsledding tours are shared, a max. of 6 people are on the tour.

Northern Lights
North Iceland is an excellent location to view Northern Lights. This fascinating phenomena comes into play through interplay various paramaters such as cold temperature, cloudless sky as well as much solar wind. This is a gift of the Northern winter and not at all bookable. We study all relevant preconditions and rely on our experience in order to make it happen for you if...

Season
The winter is in North Iceland a calm period and the landscapes are typically snow covered. The temperatures are milder than one thinks of, the average temperature being minus 2 degree in Akureyri. The weather is at times unpredictable which requires spontaneity and a relaxed attitude in order to go with the flow of change. But in these changes lies as well the magic.
